On our trip back to Port Harcourt, we got a little bit of good news in our house hunting quest. Our contact in the UK finally found a place that's good with couples and is willing to risk renting to foreigners.
We had found one other place like this two weeks ago but we dragged our feet for a couple of hours and by the time we checked back, the place was taken off the market. That mistake is still fresh in our minds, so we decided not to risk it all by acting fast.
During our drive from Bayelsa to Port Harcourt, we stopped at an eatery in Choba, where my brother who was driving used the rest room. During that short period, I was able to send the funds to our contact to process the payment.
We have gotten assurance from our contact that the place is now ours and that we no longer have to bother about house hunting anymore. He says our search has come to an end and while it is rushed, I think we got a good deal.
The place we're renting comes with a 6-months tenancy agreement and requires a two months notice if we decide to move. The place is also not too far from the center of town, easy access to the bus route and is a short distance from most of the amenities in the city.
I have to count myself lucky that we have a contact who understands how requirements, so we didn't have to ask too many questions before paying. In any case, we asked a few questions but that was only after we had completed the payment for the deposit.
The deal has been finalized though, since we need to be present to sign the tenancy agreement. All of that will be finalized when we set our foot in the UK and get it all done.
We are now one step closer to sorting out our feet in the UK. Things are really starting to shape up nicely for us.
