Today was yet another stressful day, and just like yesterday, I spent most of it in the Hospital and then went for a meeting with my supervisor. I achieved everything I wanted to achieve but there were some hurdles to overcome.
So I was supposed to do a urine analysis and some abdomino-something scan. The urine analysis was smooth, I pad 1500 for the test, got the pissing cup thingy and shoot my liquid into it. Easy peasy. After that analysis, it was time for the abdominal scan, but I had run out of physical cash.
Outdated payment system
I'm not under any health care scheme, so all my bills are paid across the counter. However, in this hospital, payments are done in the crudest way possible-with physical cash.
It was a bit of a shocker for me that they don't use a simple POS machine to take payments. So here I was, with money in my account, an abdominal scan to run and no way to pay for it. You'd think they'd have an ATM around but the Hospital is literally at the end of the airforce base, so the closest ATM is like 15-20 minutes away.
After spending a few minutes pondering, I walked into the restaurant, ordered food and then asked if the manager would give me some cash, and I transfer it to her account, which she obliged.
It is hard to wrap my head around why a hospital will operate this ancient form of system. I mean, paper notes are dirty and should Ideally be avoided, yet here we are, moving it around the hospital. Then there are those annoying moments where you make a payment and they don't have change, so you have to wait there for them to find it or just leave it.
Well, on the plus side, at least I won't die. The abdominal scan that had me freaking out turned out to be good. The doctor dude said there's nothing wrong with my organs and I'm clear for another 75 years of consistent alcohol. So, yeah, it is a shitty and outdated system but I won't be dying any time soon.
