It feels like my relocation plan is the only thing I've talked about in the past couple of weeks. Honestly, it is because it is the only thing that has been on my mind throughout the period.
Virtually every decision I've made in the past couple of months has been somewhat related to our plans to leave Nigeria. With the elections drawing closer and violence never being far away from these things, I guess fleeing the country became ever so important.
I am particularly pressed by the whole situation because I live in Kaduna which is notorious for being the hotbed for crazy election-related violence and all that crap. In any case, I always keep my head down and try to make the most out of my situation.
Anyway, in the past three months, we have made numerous decisions and taken actions that were all about our relocation. We liquidated numerous assets and made a certain amount of funds available. It was a decision that I probably was delaying because moving cash to naira feels like a dead end.
We did what we could to pay our school fees but at the same time, we concluded that it is not a do or die affair. Ever since then, I've been in a better place mentally and while things aren't proceeding as we hoped for, we're still making progress.
Delay is not denial
Our plan was always to move in January and we did all we could to achieve that but from the indication, it will not be possible. So, due to this, we have decided to postpone our move by a couple of months.
Unfortunately, this means that I'll have to spend a couple more months in this annoying country and while this is not ideal, we have decided to make the best out of the situation.
I was always hoping to avoid the election period in February and be out of here before then but it seems like that might not be possible due to our deadlines.
We try to see the positives in every situation and on the surface, at least, this gives us the opportunity to save a bit more for our movement and explore other options. Again, it is far from ideal but it is what we have to work with at the moment and we aim to make the most out of the situation.
There are also some other underlying issues that we'll probably have to contend with next year and that includes sorting out my passport and whatnot but we'll let those things worry about themselves later.
All I'm saying is that I'm in a much better place mentally and financially because we're taking things at a pace that we can manage. We're still struggling with certain choices we have to make but overall, I think we're making the right decision to postpone our movement.
Bull market in the future?
I don't know what the future holds for the crypto market but considering we're basically at rock bottom, things can only get better from here.
A bullish market in the next couple of months could play right into our hands, as we slowly edge towards our plans. This could, in turn, make our future relocation plans a lot easier than it is right now.
As the red days continue piling up and causing us pain, we are accumulating tokens and hoping for the best in the future. So, we might not be able to meet our deadlines today but if things work in our favour in the crypto market, as well as in life, then we'll be much happier in the future.
