The preparation towards our relocation has been going quite smoothly, I must say. Based on my recent calculations, we have made serious progress towards the move and I am pleased to share it here.
In case you aren't aware, the plan is to relocate to the United Kingdom for work and school. My wife will handle the school side while I'll handle the work side.
A couple of weeks ago, I completed a nursing training program at a hospital to equip me for working in healthcare. I decided to go with healthcare, despite my other skills because it is an area that constantly has shortages.
WHen we get there, I intend to look our for opportunities in a variety of industries and the nursing program just gives me another option. I will still be looking out for copywriting roles since that's where I have the most experience.
The hope is that I'll get a job in healthcare or otherwise that comes with a work permit and enable us to live peacefully in the United Kingdom. My preference would be to work as a copywriter or in marketing but based on my experience, I'd be fine with healthcare, if it comes around.
My wife, on the other hand, will be doing a masters program in Nottingham. It will be a very stressful experience but one that I am sure we will both be able to handle.
Money Money Money
For a while now, all I have been doing is calculating and strategising. I must say, it is quite the "thrill" if you may but it is also very draining.
I like the idea of trying to do something bigger than me and the fact that it is draining, in all ramifications. However, I hate the fact that it involves selling some of my assets that I hold dear.
We're in a somewhat advanced stage of the process, since we're just a month away from applying for Visa. That is effectively the penultimate stage of the process as the final stage involves paying for a flight and having enough to pay rent when we get to the UK.
The rent and flight part are still someway down the future and besides that, we decided that we were going to handle things as they come. What is in front of us now is paying for Visa and health insurance, which, according to my estimates, we will be able to pay.
Unfortunately, paying for these things will mean liquidating my HBD in my wallet and I might also have to sell some GLX sometime in the future. All things considered, though, I think we're in a good place and if all goes well, we'll be starting our lives in a different country before the end of the year.
