This is one aspect that I really love about Uruguay: the insect world is amazing. Today I worked for some time in the yard and cleaned the area around Honeyboy's intended grave that never was. I had planted an Avocado tree there instead, but the frost did it in. When I removed the cardboard I had placed under earth that I had dug out, I discovered a number of insects that looked like Aliens. As someone who has a great admiration for invertebrates, I was thrilled to see spiders that looked like the invaders from 'The War Of the Worlds'. Absolutely amazing - up to the same coloring! I showed it to my Señora that comes with her two cows to graze. And she was not thrilled! :-D Then I discovered what looked like the hair of the Medusa! A moving, wiggling congregation of small, black caterpillars. And a number of large worms. They really do love their decomposing card board. Hopefully I will be able to use my macro lens before I leave. It requires a lot of time and dedication to work it though. But the results are always astonishing. I do my best to capture some of these amazing critters for You. :-)
