I agree that when it comes to curation everyone can vote as he/she wants, using more simplistic formulas or additivity to one author or other. Community curation needs to be fair for multiple participants, so I guess it makes sense to have more rules to ensure a fair "distribution" even if there are favorites and author with good content that might worth be upvoted day after day. But wider distribution, should be always encouraged.
