Yesterday was my turn to train the new guy. And to be honest, I enjoyed that very much. He's a very likable person, and one can notice that he actually likes to work, which is very rare. And he has a great taste of music. He's more into Slayer and such, while I'm more on the System Of A Down side of the hardcore-ish metal. But I gave him the phone, anyway. And after having a laugh because he started out with the "forbidden" song (Stairway to Heaven), there was a nice selection of classic rock. Until we landed on a song that I hadn't heard in a while.

And BOOM I was back in my teens. I didn't listen to Audioslave when the album came out. My memories are all when I was already driving. Going on vacation with friends, just driving home, or sitting in the train, headphones on, and that album blasting. Not really blasting. It's not a blast album. It's a rainy November-afternoon album, the cold creeping under your coat while walking through the remains of what once where colored leaves, now mushy and uniformly brown-ish paste. The sun is setting way too early already, and you never now if it's fog or mist or drizzle.

I asked him to put the whole album on. We sang along many of the songs. We didn't talk much, he's more of a quiet dude. But there's always music. It was my first day working with him, yet I really hope he stays. He has the attitude, the skills, the charisma, the experience. He told me yesterday that he's thinking about getting himself a car, so he can replace the taxis that we usually use, and that way make an extra income and pay of the car. Meaning, he also has the entrepreneurship.

He had formerly worked with a friend of mine who owns a restaurant, but left when she and his friends and coworkers had a falling out, and the team fell apart. From the little we talked, he's a great fit for our team of lovely strange folks. But I can't get too excited. It's been just a few days, we'll see after a few months. It would be amazing to be able to focus on administration, though, knowing that there's a great salesperson working their end, the baker crew improving recipes, and me reeling in clients and such.

It's a team effort. Interestingly, he liked one thing that I wrote in the job description: We're not a family. But we're a great team, and we've become good friends who support each other far beyond the limits of work.
