When Ellie complains about gaining weight, I always tell her to eat with me more often - it's really hard to fatten up on my mind of food. Especially when I cook for her, which is usually some kind of salad. But my dad's style of salad, so not just leaves and veggies, but mixed with beans or something refried.
I learned cooking worth my dad, just throwing things together, experiment on spices, and then see what happens. My mom didn't like cooking very much, but Dad and I enjoy it (the eating, too).
My girlfriend in university sometimes got angry when cooking, usually when I didn't cut the veggies just the way she wanted or didn't follow the recipe amounts on the mm³. We got along a lot better after deciding that we won't cook together anymore, but that one gives the orders and the other complies. I still learned a lot from her that way.
