Ode to a Suicide Bomber

Suckling from your mother's breasts.
Did she think you'd wear this vest?

Did she think this child so small?
Would walk into a crowded mall?

And with a shout of "God is Great!"
Blast himself into this fate!

With your only life, you barter.
Pleasures promised to a martyr.

The enemies you seek to damn.
Like you, the fruit of Abraham.

Those who taught you how to hate.
Would they embrace the self same fate?

A thing that others hold as sacred.
Evil men have turned to hatred.

Is a virgin's gift so sweet?
Death’s finality, you’d meet?

Is it here that you belong?
What they whisper could be wrong!

A deity beyond the skies?
Handed down and only lies?

And if the Christian view is true?
A fiery pit will be your due!

You've only but one life to waste.
Your memory will be erased.

Would it not be better spent?
With prayers to Allah that you sent!

Asking peace and understanding.
A gift of love your brothers handing?

You can die but just one time.
And from the ashes, we will climb.

And whether you believe or not!
Shame upon your faith is wrought!

You burden those who do remain!
Restoring Islam's holy name!

And if to hatred you must bend
You still reap nothing in the end!
