18 years is the legal age when one becomes an Adult. A period where you feel you are legal to do whatever you want. You could vote, you could be voted for, and run for any political position. At this age, you can own a car and drive without being held on the road for being underage.

I could remember during my teen, I went to the bank to open an account, I was asked my age and I said 16, she said you’re underage, I felt slightly embarrassed and couldn’t wait to be an adult.

I had lots of friends that were already adults at the time but I just couldn’t wait, most times when we went out, I ended up being described as the baby maybe due to some restrictions I had, it was unbearable at a point. Thinking about it right now I wish I could go back to being a baby.

On the night of my 18th birthday, I couldn’t sleep. I kept thinking of the freedom that came with being an adult. I was so happy that I didn’t even feel hungry. I was grinning all through the day. At that point, if you had asked me for anything I would have given it to you without hesitation. I was so happy to be legal. Finally, I had the freedom to do whatever I wanted to do.

Well the day came and I was finally 18, I got lots of gifts, my friends made lots of birthday posts welcoming me to adulthood and honestly, I didn’t think about the other part of being an Adult.

This is me now, an Adult, this phase has to be the most stressful and not exciting phase of my life, apart from the part where we get the freedom to do whatever we like.

We could party all night without being answerable to anyone, you can now stay on your own without anyone being bothered about you. This Adult phase comes with so many responsibilities and consequences if not explored with care.

During this period you just have to take responsibility for yourself and maybe your little siblings. In this phase, everyone thinks you’re no longer a baby.
I get sick and then I have to take care of myself, I remember when I was just a kid and I would have my mom babysit me till I recover now I tell myself I need to be strong and go out so I don’t feel worse if I stay home.

My Adulthood has me dealing with myself alone financially, mentally, and even emotionally.
At some point, I just wanna be a baby but when I think about freedom, I will be like “Nah I’m good”
Well, I am still riding through the journey of being an Adult it’s been a sweet sour journey, I can’t say I don’t love it but neither can I say I hate it.

Cheers🥂
