Hello people, I just got out of a conversation with my friend and we actually spoke at length about the kind of phrases people use this days to justify themselves. We kind of spoke about few of them but I will be fixing this writing on this popular phrase, “I owe nobody anything”. This phrase has actually affected the society negatively. Saying you owe nobody anything is like saying you have given yourself the license to speak and act stupid to anyone in the society.
As you read this, please have it in mind that I stand to be corrected and am only going to be putting my thoughts into writing because the society will only suffer from our output which will in turn make a good society or a bad one. Personally, I said a lot in the conversation I had with my friend and it occurred to me that I frown at some stupid phrases people say. The truth is that there are things we owe one another as a member of a society. I owe nobody this, I owe no body that, got us to the level of irresponsibility, broken relationships, moral decadence and a reckless society.
Let’s talk about good character. To be very sincere with yourself, saying you don’t owe your fellow citizen or the society a good character is like saying you are free to exhibit bad characters that will in turn affect the society badly. People often live in this shell of not wanting to be accountable to anyone. Doing this brings about so many irresponsibility. This is why someone in a relationship can comfortably not want to work on his or herself because he or she thinks acceptance of a poor behavior should be one of the criteria of a good relationship.
Another one I will like to talk about is accountability. In our society today, no one wants to be accountable to anyone. There is this weak thinking amongst some class of people that having to stay accountable to one or two persons shows weakness and somehow means you are being controlled. What a swallow thought.
Let me leave you with these words I told my friend this evening just before we ended the conversation. Don’t allow anybody deceive you. You owe people respect, love, politeness, empathy, compassion, accountability and good character.
I really hope this brings us to a point where we consciously make up our minds to do better and not hide in some disgusting phrases. Stay blessed and relevant.
