So it has been about 1 week now since we've arrived in Cyprus, but sadly we had no time to explore the island till today. We woke up to a blue sky and sunny day this morning, so we've decided to take the chance and go for a Sunday-Trip. The trip couldn't be more perfect! We've planned to go for a hike in the Akamas National Park. We departed from Paphos, which is in the west of Cyprus, and the place where Aphrodhite was born. From there we drove to the "Baths of Aphrodhite", which is in the north-west of Cyprus. It took us about 1 hour to get there. Just for your information, the streets in Cyprus are superb. Almost no traffic even on a Sunday and most of them look really new, so it's very smooth to drive.
We've also enjoyed such an amazing view on our way to the "Baths of Aphrodhite". We drove up mountains, where we could see the whole landscape of Paphos with the stunning blue ocean in the back, as well as gorgeous houses on the hilltop. Everything looked like painted. It was picture perfect!! I could feel all the stress and sorrows gone with the moment I saw that view.
You can drive with the car to the point of "Baths of Aphrodhite". There you can park your car, if you're lucky you'll also get a parking space in the shadow so your car won't get too hot while you're away. On that point you can also buy drinks, ice cream and some hiking equipment such as a hiking pole. If you want to do something for your health and protect the nature don't rent an off road car and hike. It was the best decision we could have made. Oh, and please wear proper shoes for hiking and don't forget to put on some sun protection.
We were prepared with a backpack with water, sunscreen and a sandwiches...you never know when you'll need some energy.
So we were on our way to the "Blue Lagoon", which was about 6 km away from the point where we started. The trail was blind blowing! There where such amazing views on our way, we had to stop every 5-10 minutes. We've seen colourful flowers, cute little lizards, goats and the clear ocean.
We enjoyed every second! For people who don't like hiking like me, I can just say: "Do it!! It's worth every drop of sweat and muscle ache. We found so many spots for the perfect picture. Let me share one of my favourite picture I've took today...
If 6 km of hiking is to much for you, especially when you're hiking with young children. you can still find super amazing small blue lagoons after about 3 km. We found one where there were no people. It was so peaceful! We enjoyed the tranquillity, the view and the sea breeze. The crystal clear water was a bit too cold for swimming, but perfect for a beautiful picture.
If you ever have the chance to travel to Cyprus, go to the Akamas National Park. You won't regret it!
Oh and by the way, it's all free. You don't have to pay for the parking or for the entrance.
