Valentine's day is just four days away. Some persons have already prepared their gifts while some are still on "thinking avenue".

Giving gifts to our dear ones is a form of appreciation and one love language that speaks volumes. Who doesn't like gifts? I know I do. No matter how small the gift might seem in monetary value, as long as it came for me, then it is well received.

So in response to one of the questions for this week's hiveghana@hiveghana prompt, I would like to say that there is no perfect gift, only beautiful thoughts and motives behind a gift.

You see, everyone's idea of their ideal gift differs, hence the need to understand the partner that one is with.

Some people prefer extravagant gifts while some prefer simple thoughtful gifts... it's all dependent on the one you are in a relationship with.

Getting gifts for our men for Valentine's day is not so difficult a task as some claim it to be. It's just that women are more detailed and thoughtful when getting gifts that they go for important gifts, one that their loved one would bear on them so proudly.

Yes I'm talking about the general gifts known to the male folks. I think I need to throw a quick question here, "why do some men not want to appreciate the gifts that their female partners give to them?"

One guy complained that he was tired of receiving undergarments, shirts, towels, diaries and stationeries. He said that he wanted something different like car, suits, vacation tickets and stuffs like that. I asked him some questions and got to know that his girlfriend's financial capacity was not on par with his wishes.

I also went ahead to ask him the kind of gifts he gives to his girlfriend and he replied with undergarments, chocolates, lingerie, perfume and some make-up parafernalia. After he was done talking, I laughed so hard cos this was a case of pot calling kettle black.

I then asked him, "Don't you think that she wants bigger things than what you are gifting her currently?". Like a light bulb appeared in his head, he suddenly realized his error and we both had a good laugh.

You can't say you love without giving. With this I believe that no one in a genuine and loving relationship would want to give out measly gifts to that their special person. There are just certain constraints that forces the hand to be at a standstill.

So my candid advice to the ladies, give your men thoughtful gifts. Do not be intimidated by anything and appreciate the men in your life with the best you can afford currently.

To the guys, please accept the gifts given to you happily and with respect. Remember that it's the thought that counts.
