For the last few days I've been thinking about what theme I could use for my music-share post this week and decided I'd simply shuffle-play my liked songs playlist on Spotify and use the first three songs that played. Here they are:

Travelin' Soldier
I really love this song by country artists The Chicks (formerly, Dixie Chicks). Originally written and recorded in 1966, The Chicks covered it in 2002. It's a Vietnam War era song about a young American soldier who strikes up a pen-pal relationship with a young girl back home in which he talks about the war and his experiences. Towards the end of the song the girl is at a football game where the list of recent Vietnam dead is read out; the young soldiers' name is listed...but only she recognises it, indicating that no one really cared about the young soldier. It's sad, but a lovely song.
You Were Meant For Me
I love Alaskan folk artist Jewel's voice and her music always hold so much passion. This song is about the loneliness she feels after the break-up from her boyfriend and her hopes that they may reunite. She's trying to be strong, go about her usual days and tasks and convince herself she will be ok but clearly not considering how she pines for her ex-boyfriend. It's a lovely song showcasing her beautiful voice.
Don't Want to Miss a Thing
I cried in the movie Armageddon, I guess I related to Liv Tyler's character losing her father as I had lost mine. This track, by her father's band, Aerosmith, has stuck with me since I saw the movie all those years ago and it grabs me every time I hear it.
These are the first three tracks that played on my Spotify liked songs playlist this morning when I put it on shuffle-play and I think they're all good ones.
