The sun shone brightly, too brightly for this time of the morning; it was so early. Ten o'clock in the morning is early for Saturday isn't it? I resigned myself to the inevitable, pushed back the covers and moved to get out of bed. I shivered as cool air touched my skin and it reacted.
Dressing gowned, pussy-cat slippered and trying to tame some of my wayward hair that seemed intent upon finding different directions to escape to, I sat in the kitchen watching the kettle boil thinking about what I'd do with the day.
An hour later I was out the door walking to the park; I'd decided to make use of the sunshine and, whilst cold, thought to soak up some warmth from the sun and enjoy the fresh air I always found in the gardens. I brought my book, The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory, and would buy a coffee and baguette later for lunch.
The day wasn't warm so I dressed appropriately: A knitted powder pink cowl-neck sweater, tight blue jeans and a sandy-coloured anorak zip-up jacket. It's cute, has a contrasting fur lining around the hood and always makes me feel snuggly. I finished off my look with matching knee-high boots. Sure, it's not an outfit designed for much walking but, for sitting on the bench at the park reading, it was perfect.
There was too many people there but I found a place to settle and immersed myself in reading, occasionally sipping the huge coffee, I'd bought on the way. I might be part lizard you know, the sun warming me felt so good, a beautiful contrast to the cool air and with rustling leaves and bird calls over head I felt content.
I am able to ignore when I'm in public mostly, I'm always aware though. Sometimes I get approached, and I know people look at me which I don't like at all. It wasn't long ago that a man came by in his car and harassed me as I walked alone, the memory of which still annoys me. That was on the street though, here it's not so bad, families and couples mainly. A man came and sat on my bench for a bit, way too close to me considering I was all the way at one end and he'd sat on my side of half-way along. He didn't say anything though. I pretended to read though, making sure I was aware of what he was up to. Ten minutes later he left and I decided to move also.
I went home around late-afternoon after a totally enjoyable day out in the park. I even had someone ask me where I'd bought my boots because she wanted some; a nice compliment.
I stopped at the bakery and bought a small quiche on the way home; I ate it with a green salad for supper...I bought a little cake too considering I'd been so disciplined at the park and not had one.
I've just finished a long soak in the bath, one of my nightly rituals, and I'm going to settle in to watch a movie on Netflix with a pot of tea and my little cake for company. It's been such a nice day, relaxing, quiet and peaceful. I've got a few things planned for Sunday, but that's for another post. Right now that cake is calling my name. Have a good weekend.
