There's many different parts to me, I'm a jigsaw puzzle of sorts I suppose. I'm made up of all those parts combined, the characteristics, traits, habits, behaviours, feelings, values and emotions that ultimately make me Becca. but I've lost some of those pieces on my way through life on purpose, through attrition, need and requirement and natural change as well; time causes change and as we experience life we adapt, learn and acquire the necessary aspects we need to move forward.
My personality is who I am at any given moment however it's fluid, ever-changing with the passage of time and life combined. At any moment my personality could change irrevocably and at that juncture, I'm the same Becca, simply a revised version shaped around the events and experiences of life.

I believe the relationship between my personality and my life is a synergistic one; each is influenced by the other. If my personality was to change my life would also, and when things in life exert influence then my personality may change accordingly.
Let's say I was in a deep emotional relationship with someone, a person I cared tenderly for, bonded with and whom I cherished; a person who told me they felt the same. My personality would adjust to that, melt into it somewhat, I'd be happier, more centred and content probably, more open in mind and spirit and to that person. But what happens if I found out that person had lied to me, deceived me for a period of time? My personality, the person I am, would respond, I'd move to protect myself, have doubt, fear, feel lonely, angry, undervalued, cheated and used among other things.
I think my jigsaw puzzle would start to fall apart at that point and my personality would retreat, then begin to change.
That's what life does to us, it brings change, and sometimes it happens in enjoyable ways, at other times not so. That's how life works, and the forces it exerts upon us change who we are.
Using that same example above, my personality would change, I'd move forward with new information, skills, abilities, a little stronger emotionally maybe or more fragile and cautious, more distrustful possibly. I'm still Becca, but those jigsaw pieces that fell away might be replaced with different ones altogether, or when I replaced them that may go back in differently than when they fell out; still Becca, just one whose personality takes into account that event and the changes it wrought.
This post is in response to the #weekend-engagement posting topics for week 166 and, specifically, the topic of: What does the word personality meant to you and how does it fit into your life?
