What is good leadership? Essentially, it is the ability to lead or direct a group of people. It is the ability to influence a person, the ability to encourage and motivate others to make a positive impact.
My previous military experience has provided me a solid foundation of leadership traits which I have successfully incorporated within the civilian sector. I wish to share these with you all and hope that you may be able to apply them in your life somehow. There are a total of 14 Leadership traits that are embedded into every United State Marine.
It is important for a leader to analyze the consequences of their actions. Leaders must be held accountable and consistent to their word. Leaders must consider each situation without a bias outlook and must always be fair, this demonstrates a good form of Justice.
An effective leader can quickly assess a situation with very little time to reflect on their decision but each decision is precisely impactful with perfect Judgment.
A strong leader admits their weaknesses and turns it into strengths. Being consistent through a crisis is needed from a leader that is Dependable.
A smart leader thinks outside of the box in order to accomplish the mission, these type of leaders tend to adapt and overcome regardless of the circumstances, these leaders display Initiative.
By practicing Decisiveness, great leaders make difficult decisions intuitively and analytically. They know what their mission is, what they are capable of, what their means are, and how to properly define their barriers.
A wise leader can communicate a message clearly to a listener, make a point, and not be offensive, this is an ability called Tact.
Integrity is the behavior that comes from an honorable leader that desires to inspire, educate, and encourage those they lead.
A responsible leader willingly goes through the trial by fire without being affected by the flames of despair and chaos, this characteristic is called Endurance.
Bearing provides a leader a deeper understanding of their surrounding environment while constantly seeking self-improvement.
Unselfish leaders go beyond their personal comfort and make decisions that benefit everyone other than themselves.
With Courage a leader learns to conquer their fear and can easily influence others to do the same.
Knowledge is power and wisdom, this is greater than any source of income. A powerful leader never stops learning.
Having loyalty to your family, your business, your friends, but most importantly yourself is crucial. A Steadfast leader never compromises on their word for anyone or anything.
Enthusiasm fuels motivation throughout the difficult challenges that a leader must experience.
Lastly, a leader understands others perspective. Don’t be prideful and egocentric, remember to show humility and gratefulness.
