Welcome back again all Splinterlands fans!

It’s time to talk about journeys, especially the one we’ve all been on in Splinterlands. And let me tell you, it’s been one heck of a ride over the last 3.5 years!

From being super doubtful in my first week… to now being fully passionate and calling it my number one game — that's a wild transformation.
And just for context, I’ve been a gamer for many years. I’ve sunk hundreds of hours into games like Diablo 2/3, Magic: The Gathering, and was a long-time Hearthstone player. Funny enough, what always brought me back to Hearthstone was the single-player campaign books — that sense of story and strategy always pulled me in.

Now, I wouldn’t even describe myself as a highly competitive player. And let’s be real — Splinterlands is a pretty competitive game with plenty of investment involved. But more on that in a bit...

🌟 So, what does keep me excited about Splinterlands?

It’s because it’s more than just a card game.
Yes, I absolutely enjoy the fast-paced battles — who doesn’t love the thrill of a well-timed sneak or snipe?
But it’s the bigger picture that made me stick around:

  • The community
  • The strategy
  • The land expansion
  • The open API
  • The economy

All of this is intertwined, and honestly, it feels like discovering a hidden gem. I genuinely feel lucky to have found this game.

And here's a key difference from traditional games:
The fact that you can sell assets and get value back when you want to take a break or move on is huge.
In Web2 games, your "investment" is sunk — you get zero return other then the pure entertaiment.
In Splinterlands, you can scale up or down depending on your time, interest, or budget. This flexibility is one of the most underrated features of the game in my opinion.

💡 Advice I’d give my past self (and any new player)

This ties directly into one of the most important lessons I’ve learned:

Everyone has their own journey.
Don’t compare yourself too much with others.
Enjoy the ride, grow at your own pace, and find what fits your playstyle.

I still consider myself a small fish in this ecosystem. But looking back, I’ve grown a lot — both in terms of invested value and understanding the game. There’s no one-size-fits-all strategy.

🧙‍♂️ The Power of Community

One of the most valuable parts of Splinterlands for me has been my guild.
We have a weekly voice chat on Discord where we nerd out over the latest updates, strategies, and sometimes… bugs 😅

My girlfriend still doesn’t get it — why would anyone spend time talking about cards on a Sunday night? But for me, it’s fun every other week (we alternate time zones).

And guess what? Often Splinterlands team members join our chats. That level of commitment and passion from the team side? It makes the whole thing feel even more special.

🔧 Building for the Community

In the past year, I’ve built several tools for the community — all open-source.
I’m a strong believer in helping each other out. If we do that, the game becomes better for everyone.

Here are a few tools I’ve made:

Splinterlands Statistics Tool (Demo site)

Land Statistics Tool (Live site)

Scholar Showcase Tool (Live site)

BeeBalance — Hive community / curator checker (Live site)

These tools aren’t just for the community — they’ve helped me grow my own skill set too. It’s a total win-win.
Some of my proudest moments have come from the feedback and upvotes I’ve received from you all. Thank you!

🧭 Strategy? It's personal.

There’s no single path that works for everyone. Some players love high-league ranked play. Others enjoy tournaments, brawls, or grinding the land meta.

Some want to reach Diamond with only 2 summoners. Others find joy in staying in Silver and maximizing returns.

My advice? Find what you enjoy and lean into that.

If you’re ever in doubt, drop a question in the Splinterlands Discord — or DM me, or leave a comment here. I’m always happy to help out with a more tailored answer.

For land owners, I really recommend checking out Azircon’s great post on how to approach land strategy, especially if you’re small, medium, or large scale.
