We Traveled South For A Few Day's ..

Before things started to go on lock down around here because of Covid-19. We went to visit my parent in Delaware before the orders were given to stay in place. We were all very healthy and had no contact with sick individuals, so we decided to sanitize and go! They only live a short three hours away, so all in all not a terrible car ride. The dogs are content with their beds stacked into the middle of the car, and a soft place to ride along with us. It was a nice weekend of catching up and making sure all of us were prepared to stay at our respective homes for a while. I am hoping the craziness and virus dies quickly.

To The Meat Of This Post ..

And my first post on the new HIVE fork!!! Yippee!!! I gave my mother an Amaryllis several years back and it has gotten to be quite the show plant. It grows to almost chest height and the bulb was approximately 9 inches wide! Crazy!! The bulb eventually grew two more bulbs off to it's side. This year she separated them off and gave one of them to me. I was super excited to get it home and in place by our back door, with the other plants :-) Did I mention that I was SUPER EXCITED!!??

Here you can see the main plant (the biggest one) and the two smaller bulbs that she separated off.

The original bulb is quite large now, even though it is shrinking some due to the fact it is putting most of it's energy into producing the leaves and flowers.

Of Course Pepper, the nosy boy he is, has to be right up in it! He was having a good time checking out where my hands were going. He also got a lot of potting soil stuck to his beard and then deposited onto the floor. Oh that dog! I do still find it a bit cute that he is so curious.

He's not as curious of the one that is going home with us, but rather more focused on what's going on outside in the canal. More likely the dog across the canal, running up and down the edge of the water/lot.

The bulb/flower that is going home to NJ with us, is much smaller than the original, but should grow considerably since it now has the room to do so.

This is the Amaryllis bulb going home with us. Next to the main flower stalk, you can see a set of leaves. the second one in from the left looks like it may be another flower stalk! its not as flat as the rest and is sort of on the thick side. We'll just have to wait a week and see what happens.

For now though, the main flower is starting to grow apart and outward.. A sign that it is nearing it time to bloom. That should give me something to blog about in the near future. I will keep you all updated.

While at my parents house, Pepper did a good job keeping guard of the new plants.. or so I like to think. Again, he was probably more interested in what was happening out doors.

I Packed Up The Pot And Plant ..

For the three hour trip home today. I used some scrap cardboard that my mom gave me and cut it to fit. I made sure to support the long flower stem while keeping the soil in place for the ride. A little bubble wrap helped to keep the stem from being cut, torn or bruised. Our car is not best for transporting tall delicate items, so this craziness was necessary if we had any hopes of getting her home safely.

Again, Pepper came over to check out the details. He was sort of disappointed that it wasn't food for him.. haha. He did end up getting some tidbits of food before we left on our trip. There was something good in it for him.. Eventually! He looks like he is falling asleep in this shot. Not the best one, but oh well.. they all can't be winners.

The Amaryllis Made It Home !!

Safe and sound with no loss of soil or damage to the plant. The funky cardboard contraption worked well and did a good job. I didn't wait long before unpacking her and setting it in place. I can't wait to see the growth over the next several weeks. My other plants needed some new company desperately! haha!! She'll fit in just fine here. Getting a little crowded though.

That's It For Now!

Like I said, I will post an update once something more noticeable happens. Until then, I am HAPPY to be here in my new HIVE home and look forward to catching up with all of you soon :-)

Have A Great Day or Night my fellow Hivesters!!

About Me ~ The Artist

My art work incorporates a wide variety of subject matter, including landscape, seascape, cityscape, and still life images. My works are the product of a continuing process of exploration through which I seek to portray personal and visionary interpretations of my surroundings. My paintings are impressions of places and events from everyday life, an interpretation of my imagination, and personal responses to what I see and feel on a daily basis. More recently I have invested generous amounts of time into my landscape painting. I am surrounded by natural and man made beauty, which inherently presents itself in the tri-state area, and almost demands that I paint it.

Not everything is art. Art is not everything, but it comes close. Art is everywhere and all the time. Art makes you experience the beauty of the world, the people in it, and the places we call home. Art itself is so influential that it can tell stories, show feelings, and express passion or fury. Art exists in addition to language; expression of sensations and thoughts, revealing a way of thinking too subtle and delicate for words.

For me art requires love, honesty and perseverance. In return, it reveals some personal, non-analyzable, and creative untamed passion. For the public, art with its magnificent beauty, improves mood and health and builds better human beings and communities. It engages the intellect, softens the heart, strengthens the soul and frees the spirit.
