And the house is still quiet.. So this is the perfect time to sip my freshly made, breakfast blend, morning coffee, while sitting down to the lap top for a few minutes. Outside it is definitely feeling like fall. The air is crisp, and wafts of smoke drift back and forth through the cold breeze. I took a look and the temperature is hovering at just about 34F (or 1C), so it's no wonder the frost has settled in again; covering the tips of the grass and the flats of the roofs. Brrrr...
All the while, Molly sleeps all snug in her warm, soft bed.
What about Molly?.. As she sleeps, and the slight noise of morning traffic starts to fill my ears, I sip that coffee and think of her and how she's been feeling all this week. My work requirements have changed a bit since my company has merged with another much larger company, and so I have been spending a lot of time working from my home. Molly thinks this is great! She has been loving the all day company, and endless cookies. hehe.
I'm happy to report that she is in a good spot right now. Getting her to eat breakfast and dinner is still a bit of a challenge from time to time, but over all that has been pretty okay too. We have tried a few new techniques, in order to stimulate her drive to start eating, and they seem to be working.. for now (lol).
For those of you unfamiliar with Molly .. She is our 14 year 3 month old Shih Tzu. Poor Molly has had a rough go with life, but still has been such a blessing to ours. Amongst so many other things, she suffers from an illness called Addison's Disease. Basically her Adrenal Glands stopped working, so we have to give her daily medications to keep her alive. Along with the disease comes a pile of other issues that we battle and attend to, one day at a time. That's the short and sweet of it.
Molly had just had a couple of weeks where her seizures seemed to be fairly frequent. We keep pretty close track of them; when the occur and what she was doing just before they took place. We often wondered if they were occurring when we were both at work during the week. Since I have been home for almost three weeks now, on a pretty regular basis, I haven't noticed any. This is a good thing since we often felt terrible for letting her home alone to deal with these terrifying ordeals on her own.
It is also our fear .. That she will one day have one of these seizures, when we are not home, and it will take her life. We want to be with her when the time comes.. Who wants to die alone? We certainly don't want her to if we can help it, but we are not God and can not predict when it will happen or spend everyday worrying about it. So needless to say, being home with her on a more regular basis has helped ease my mind a little bit.
Besides the occasional whimper or muffled dream induced bark, she's pretty quiet. It's nice having her around and I am appreciating her company as much as she is mine.
As I peck away at the key board of my laptop, and attend day in and day out zoom/team meetings, she rests quietly next to me, in her "Big Dog" bed, or in a sunny spot on the office floor...
Or Downstairs in her SOFT and FLUFFY bed...
Or in her crib by the office window...
Or making "Wedge Face" on the living room couch...
Occasionally sticking her tongue out in disgust of my photo taking! Hahahaha...
We even found time on an "I'm feeling good day", to have a MUCH NEEDED bath and a hair cut. Now that I am looking at her again, she is just about in need of another. How does this dog get so dirty so quickly when she does pretty much nothing all day???!!!
As much as we love bath time (or at least the results of bath time), Molly does NOT. She would rather stay stinky. NOT A FAN OF THE WATER!
On the other hand, she doesn't mind the hair dryer. I think she likes the warm air on her skin and bones style body...
A little choppy, but hey.. we are not professionals.
I'm looking forward to posting this update for all of the Molly fans out there, and then spending a few minutes catching up on all of your blogs too! I think we'll spend the day getting a few chores done, then meet up with friends for dinner. The sun is up now and I hear the birds chirping to one another, so maybe this is a good place to end todays story. After all, I do want to leave something for next time. I'm sure there will be more to tell.
“Darling listen – today, I want you to step out into the world with the intention to form a heartfelt connection & do something self satisfying.
Remember – every stranger is one conversation away from an acquaintance & one coffee or drink away from your friendship. Try it!
I want you to use your smile, sense of humor, witty & chirpy nature to be the center of attraction today (in fact everyday). Let your good deeds, good thoughts, happy heart & the smile on your face bring good cheers & joy in your world.
Stay amazingly blessed!”
