One Has To Love A Good Pocket Change Surprise

I had gone to the drugstore for a few items and paid with cash. I was handed change and almost immediately noticed this familiar noise as I was handed my change. If you don’t know what I am talking about, place a silver coin in with your nickel and copper changes and giggle it around. Silver has a distinct ringing tone to it when it clanks against other silver or metal.

I placed the change into my pocket .. and couldn’t wait to check for my surprise. When I arrived home I was thrilled! It was definitely silver, but what? Take a look at the photo and see if your keen eye can spot it right away. As a hint.. I love our Canadian neighbors.

There ya go! You have to be able to pick it out now. Hehe. Sure enough it was silver I was hearing. A 1955 Canadian Quarter. And a beauty at that. How can these coins still be floating around in circulation? And how did the store clerk not know it had more value than they thought? There loss was my gain.

The coin isn’t in that bad of condition either .. for being a circulated coin. Maybe I could get $6 to $10 USD for it, but that’s not happing. It’s going into my coin stack. So exciting! I don’t find many silver coins anymore. Those days are long gone I think. Today was a real surprise.

Found something else in the mix too. A bicentennial Washington Quarter. Not worth anything, but still fun to see them turn up now and again.
