Not Everyone Is Excited ..
About the new Orchid blooms that are quickly approaching .. Molly for one is quite content remaining in her safe spot. We have her so 'Hooked Up', why would she ever think about leaving it to explore. Little does she know, and little does she care, that just feet from where she is nestled into a pillow crevice, beauty is awakening.
All Is Calm ..
One this side of the couch .. Molly is fast asleep, surely dreaming of doggy type things.. cookies, ice cream, petting, eating, and of course sleeping .. Yes, she may in fact be the only dog alive that dreams of sleep while actually sleeping. I know.. Deep! lol. She does enjoy her relaxation, and when dogs age and become seniors, they sleep roughly 75% or so of their time away. She has had a rough go at life, so she deserves it.
We make the spot, that she seems to have claimed from the very time she arrived home, the most comfy we can for her tired bones. That means fluffy pillows, soft puppy beds, and cloud like blankets.. she wants for nothing comfy and cozy.
She Sleeps As The Orchid Prepares To Awake ..
It's been about 30 days .. Since I updated you last on this pair of Orchids. As a recap, I inherited this duo when our business office moved due to an acquisition. My office assistant and I were being split up and she was sure the plants would not survive under her care alone. She happily grabbed them from her desk and handed them to me as we walked out of the building for the last time.
Since then, they have flourished .. while my other Orchids suffered. Yes, I won't go to deep into that today, but will touch on it just a bit. It's a duo because there are two Orchid plants in the one pot. For the life of me I can not remember what color the blooms will be, but I will take an wild stab at guessing and say white. Since most floral places plant Orchids in the same color pot as the blooms (Most of the time) as a complimentary thing, I will guess white. I suppose we'll all find out in just a few short weeks.
Both of the Orchids are loving their spot .. On the kitchen table. The indirect sunlight and warm, stable temperature that this area boasts, has proved to be quite reliable for growing Orchids over the years. Again it proves true as the one plant prepares to bloom for the first time since I brought them home.
As seen in the photo below, they are doing very well in the moist Spanish Moss that is tucked in around their root systems. Both leaves and roots look very heathy. I also see a few new air roots forcing their ways out of the main stem of the plant. This is a good sign that the plant is happy. It is starting to lean over a bit too much, so a replanting and positioning is imminent. hehe.
I chuckle a little .. Because of the mistake that I made a while back, when I decided to change out all the moss and bark for lava rock. My Orchids did not react well to the change. I lost one plant and the others are struggling to say the least.
I have since replanted them all in bark chips .. But the recovery has been slow. I'm now thinking that I may want to repot all of them into moss and get rid of the lava rock and bark all together. I am seriously considering this. I may opt to go to the local hardware store an pick up a few bags of Spanish Moss. At a little over $4 USD per bag, this would not be a very expensive switch.
Stay Tuned .. Good Chance This Plan Will Come To Fruition
Blooms On The Way ..
Maybe, Just Maybe We can nurse those other plants back to life. And maybe back to the same state of happiness, as this blooming Orchid is presently in. For now though, we have something to look forward to .. New Orchid Blooms!
For anything else we'll just have to wait ..
We'll Just Have To Wait And See ...
And As You May Have Guessed,
Molly's Fine With That
“Some part of me can't wait to see what life's going to come up with next! Anticipation without the usual anxiety. And underneath it all is the feeling that we both belong here, just as we are, right now.”
