It's Saturday Morning and Feeling Like Spring! ..

I let Molly outside to do what she does, and I feel the warmer than normal weather hitting my in the face. It was a slow morning and the sun is already up. I have a few things on my 'To Do' list for today, and one of them is to clean up some areas of my gardens that I did not get to this fall.

But you know how it is.. First things first.. COFFEE!

Okay, now that the coffee is finished.. I put on some crappy work cloths, so I don't ruin my good ones (like I usually do). I head out to the shed and gather up a few of the essentials for the job. I know what I want to get done and I will only need a few items. Trimmers (electric because I am lazy), pruners, extension cord, rake, wheelbarrow.. yada yada....

I want to get these tall decorative grasses cut back.. I need to get them cut before they start to shoot out new growth. Since it has been warm, I think they may start to grow any day now. If I wait and cut them I risk hacking off new growth and then they will look like Poop!

If I pull apart the dried blades of grass, you can see there's a little green in there, but no worries, its old stuff.

See here, the ends are brown and dead. Last years growth.

**We are good to start cutting and hacking at this mammoth of a grass. Well, I mean I am good to start, because I don't see you standing here ready to help like you said you would! hehe.

Before and After.. The electric sheers make quick work of the grass blades! Speaking of "Blades of Grass", They are called 'Blades' for a reason.. They CUT YOU!! OUCH!!!!!!! Yup, it got me.. huge cut that may need stitches.. hehehehe. I learned my lesson and retrieved a pair of gloves. I should have gotten a long sleeve shirt as well, but dummies never learn.
What I meant to say is that "Real Men" don't need to protect their arms and hands Yeah Right.. I remembered why I usually wear them

I am left with a nicely cut grass mound.. and now I need to clean this up a little. I reach in there and pull out all the dead sprouts to allow for better air and water circulation. You could leave this stuff, but rot and mold may be an issue and may even kill the plant eventually.

It comes out pretty easily

I am left with a pile of death.. to clean up. I use my hands and the rake and get this work done. It's awkward stuff to haul out to the curb this way, but I managed. I should have used my little tarp, but didn't feel like searching for it.

I was carful not to step on the new sprouting daylilies that are starting to emerge. One wrong move and one misplaced step, and these are toast! well maybe not toast, but it can significantly harm them. I speak from experience.

It took a few more trips than normal using the wheelbarrow , but it's only a few hundred feet to the curbside of the road. The city will be around in a week or so to collect this material for me.

These grasses do or did add a little winter interest, in an otherwise boring winter landscape, but it was time for a haircut!

Now That Job 1 Is Done.. I move my attention to the mailbox area. This was another bed/garden area that I left go and did not get too. I better tackle this too before things start sprouting.

I was surprised to see.. That the clematis plants were starting to sprout already! Wow!! I'm officially springtime excited!! Check them out, they are about 6 inches tall already. This will be growing tall in no time. I will have to get a few stakes out soon so that they have something to grow up onto.. after all they are a vine.

Another to do for today.. Is to trim up the hedge along the side of the house. I usually hold off, but since it will not flower (well at least flowers you can't really see.. better known for its fall red color), I am going to give it a hair cut too.

Now the clean up! Pretty easy using the good old lawn tractor!

One Last Thing That Needs To Get Done!..

I NEED to drink a beer! Just one because I am craving it. It tastes so good to have one when you work up a sweat. I should be drinking water, but I am not that dehydrated. Beer will do just fine today :-)

I feel accomplished. Got something done off of the Saturday Springtime Chore List. That feels good!
