I can’t believe how fast time goes by when our lives get so busy. Life has been hectic lately, and I won’t bore you with all the details pertaining to work and the general garbage of life. I will however dazzle you with a few details pertaining to Molly and the holidays.
Work has been crazy. I can’t say much more than that. It’s just been nuts. It seems like the pace has tripled in the last few months since my company was purchased and I have been working my butt off trying to keep things transitioning smoothly. It seems like when things get crazy like this, life goes by so quickly. I want to stop and slow down and enjoy the season, make plans with friends, and enjoy this part of life. It’s hard to do that when time flies by and we can’t find time to even breathe.
Heck! I think it’s time I 'Find Time' to do something with seasons past. I still have a pumpkin sitting on my back porch, that my wife asked me to dispose of weeks ago. I see it every day when I let the dog out but I still don’t take the time to do something constructive with it. No, I’m not going to carve it or paint it, but I thought about drying out the seeds or just planting the entire thing in the ground and seeing if it rots then sprouts next year.
It will get done this weekend! One way or another that thing needs to go. Otherwise I’m putting a Santa Claus hat on it and I’m not sure how that’s gonna go over.
Throughout my busyness, Molly has been right there by my side. She sits under the desk where I work from home most days. She finds it comfortable being in a sort of cave like place I suppose. She shuffles around here and there but mostly stays within eyesight. It’s so cute that in the morning after I’ve had my coffee and chat with my wife, I head upstairs and so does Molly. She knows right where to go.. into the office and under the desk. On occasion she’ll want to get up and lay by my side in the chair, but that is short-lived and it’s back down to the floor and the comfy spots that await her.
It’s moments like those when time slows. I hear her breathing, her dreaming, even her heart beating. I think about all the great times we’ve had with her and the ups and downs over the course of the past few years. I don’t know why, but thinking about it makes me more happy than it does sad. She’s been doing pretty well lately but we call it the "Roller Coaster of Molly". Several weeks she’s up then several weeks she’s down. She was on a nice long up streak but I can see the tide turning again. Hopefully she does well through Christmas.. That's all we ask.
Molly's strength is starting to become less and less, she’s not eating as ambitiously as she wants was, and she just generally seems down in the dumps or flat. We are wondering if she has another tooth issue starting to rear its ugly head. I tried to check in her mouth but it’s hard to tell since her teeth are so bad to begin with. Unfortunately we’ll just have to wait and see how this unfolds. But we’re used to these ups and downs and hopefully this “down” won’t go that far and she’ll be on her way back up soon enough.
And if you can’t really tell by the photos, she needs a haircut! I feel like we just gave her one and she’s due for another. I think we'll try to hold off and give her one closer to Christmas Eve, when the house will be filled with family and friends. She’ll smell good and look good… Besides the breath. Lol.
It’s possible her flat or depressed state was brought on by bringing a bunch of Christmas decorations up from the basement. I know if I was a 7 pound dog looking at all these crazy, large deco things coming up from the basement, I might be a little bit weary as well. We did our best to not drag it out. In a matter of a few days we got everything up and out and distributed amongst the rooms of our house.
It looks good and all of the things Molly finds comfort in are still right where they were before. It always feels very festive and warm after we’re done decorating. And to the contrary, when we un-decorate it feels like somethings missing. But of course not for Molly. She would probably jump for joy if it were not for her bad back and arthritis.
I can’t wait till Christmas and New Year’s when I have a little bit of time off. I’m not taking as much as I thought I would due to this transition, but anytime is good time. Will make the best of it.. All of it!
Until next time… Be safe out there! I’ll try to post some smaller right ups this way I don’t get lazy. You know how it is when you get busy with something else the things you love to do take the backseat and it’s hard to get motivated again.
“Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before! What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more!”
