āĻĄāĻžāĻā§āϤāĻžāϰ, the world is full of hypocrites, and we donât like them. We get angry at them. We say its unfair! We shout, we increase our blood pressure. There is nothing wrong with our action. It is okay to be angry. We will process our anger.
There is a beautiful word in Bengali,-āĻŽāĻžāϧā§āĻāϰā§-. It is very difficult to translate that word. The literal translation is the act of being an apiarist -āĻŽāϧā§āĻāϰā§āϰ āĻŽāϤ āĻŦā§āϤā§āϤāĻŋ-, but that is not the usage I am using the word in this editorial. The usage is -āĻŦāĻšā§ āϏā§āĻĨāĻžāύ āĻšāϤ⧠āĻ āϞā§āĻĒ āĻĒāϰāĻŋāĻŽāĻžāĻŖā§ āϏāĻāĻā§āϰāĻš, āĻĻā§āĻŦāĻžāϰ⧠āĻĻā§āĻŦāĻžāϰ⧠āĻāĻŋāĻā§āώāĻž-, meaning begging door to door for sustenance. And no, I do not mean food đ
There are four stages of life, as per Hindu mythology, Brahmacharya (student), Grihastha (householder), Vanaprastha (forest walker/forest dweller), and Sannyasa (renunciate). Two of those stage, even arguably three stages, involve some sort of -āĻŽāĻžāϧā§āĻāϰā§-. Why? Because it teaches us humility. The concept is also common in modern times in the west. People take a âgap yearâ. It was incredibly popular in the 60s to 80sâĻ. Actually still popular today. The concept, even in the west is similar. It broadens the mind, teaches humility, let you see the world, and make you understand what âfor the greater goodâ is. Here however, I am using it even a level deeper than that. Three or four levels of dream shouldnât surprise you āĻĄāĻžāĻā§āϤāĻžāϰ.

It was a secluded area of ââManikganj. Silence all around; if someone unexpectedly reaches there, it would feel as if he had entered an abandoned place. The entrance of each house was opened, people survived to escape with their lives; leaving all the belongings behind, only few dogs and cats were scattering around.
This was not an imaginary panorama, it was a real incident. Precisely, this occurred in July 1971 when people were stripped naked and their genitals were checked to determine their religion. At that time, many people of the minority community fled the country for fear of the Pakistani army and their ally, the Al Badar and Razakars. That area of Manikganj was mainly inhabited by minorities. Eventually, they became the scapegoat and were compelled to leave the country.
It is just a resemblance of an area but it had happened all over the country. The local Razakars were more excited in this massacre along with the Pak army. The members of the peace committee guided military forces and carried out violence in different areas. Not only they committed genocide, but they also inflicted inhumane torture on women. Many of those women had deceased and the rest are living a miserable life. The most adverse day for this nation was December 14 while the country was waiting to celebrate victory on December 16, 1971. A blueprint to make this country incapacitate was made where the best intellectuals of the country were taken from their homes and shot indiscriminately.
The main role behind this occurrence was played by the local Razakars and members of the Al-Badar forces. The army of Pakistan fought for their country whereas despite being born in this country, these Razakars have betrayed with their motherland. But one thing to keep in mind is that history never exonerates anyone. The way Mir-Jafor was endured from remorse for betraying the country in the battle of Polashi and people mention his name with hatred, the Razakars have the same doom today. They are under justice now. So, the battle of 1971 is not over yet, it is still going on and will continue until these traitors are fully punished.
Once there was a lazy young man. Who was well enough to work and earn his bread and butter but he would never work. Instead of working, he would be dependent on others. He always thinks that what is written on his luck shall happen whether he works or not. Being failed in every attempt to make him active and understand his family told him to leave the house and search for his bread and butter. So did he leave the house without stressing his mind depending on his luck.
Whatâs the best possible way to earn bread and butter without working at all? Maybe begging. That's what he has chosen. People didnât donate much looking at his good health condition enough to work. Still, he hardly gets a little to live with them. One day he didnât get a penny and it was a very hot summer day, out of pity a man gave him 50 USD to his empty bowl so that he can live with them. He didnât beg for a few days and lived with that money.
After some days, when he ran out of money he started begging again. Whenever someone donates him little money he would throw them away because he is expecting someone to give him like 50 USD on seeing his empty bowl. Days are passing but nobody is giving him that much money he is expecting. Even hunger couldnât make him realize that luck doesnât favor every day and he ends up in the hospital being extremely sick. After suffering a lot he then realized about luck which doesnât favour always. It's we who work hard to make our luck favorable towards us. That's the lesson he got and returned to his family. Now he is a workaholic who is working to make his luck.
The thought process of humans baffles me more often than I realize. Human minds can cook up any sort of concoction, whatever theory that pleases their conscience; whether I like it or not, but the system is somehow operating just fine. âFlat Earthâ believers believe theyâll fall off the edge if they climb the icy walls of Antarctica. Maybe, could be, possibly theyâll fall off the disc, I wouldnât know if thatâs the most horrible thing that could happen to people; neither will I pass on my judgments. You accept what you want to accept; my opinions are meh. But your opinions are meh to me as well, isnât it? Weâre all inside our own bubbles carefully floating around not getting pricked by anything. Is it a raging rant Iâm forming?
We Bangalis are famous for our hospitable nature. And when the guest is a foreigner, our hospitality usually doubles. Weâre overjoyed when we have visitors; weâve to put on our best dress, cook, and behave to impress. But what the hell is going on! Every news portals here are screaming about the same subject; the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bangladesh on the 50th Independence Day and the subsequent uproar of many, many people throughout the country. I realized, werenât we supposed to put on our finest clothes, tidy up our house aka the country, and greet our visitor cordially? This is how we have been behaving for decades right? This is our nature, so why this fracas?
Youâre setting fires on the streets; ravaging everything that is in front of you; Iâm not saying you donât have a reason to do that, and I believe that your raving has got to do with the âvisitâ and possibly to some extent itâs justifiable. But canât you see that youâre only mounting up your loss or you donât count your countryâs loss as yours? Is anybody going to compensate for all that damage? Iâll let you ponder this question. Think of it this way. The PM of a country that has covered one-third of our borders isnât responsible for the stones that youâre throwing at your countrymen nor heâs answerable for the ongoing strike today nor heâs responsible for all the bloodshed that you have caused. Itâs you who are subjected to all this catastrophe, yes, a catastrophe.
Do you know that Bangals of the east side oftentimes make fun of Bangals of the west? One of the jokes is âāĻĻāĻžāĻĻāĻž āĻā§āϝāĻŧā§ āĻāϏā§āĻā§āύ, āύāĻž āĻāĻŋāϝāĻŧā§ āĻāĻžāĻŦā§āύâ what a laughable thing to say! And today we have managed to do enough damage that may not scare our honored guest away but will surely give rise to similar incidents. Donât be so happy, I didnât mean what youâre thinking. The question in my mind; are you going to act this same way when our PM visits India or the citizens of India will be acting the way weâre acting?
