Now that the arduous, for me, part of the garden planting is done we need to care for the emerging plants.
Potato beetles have found and are working on the potato plants and have managed to weaken a few so I just shook some diatomaceous earth on them in hopes that it will be effective.
I think it needs to be applied occasionally but hopefully it will stop the destruction for a while. I have never done this before as we have hand picked the beetles in the past and opened the fence for the chickens to feed off them but this year the garden is not configured in such a way as to make this possible.
I just hope that the lady bugs I released a few days ago will not be tempted by the emerging flowers on the potato plants.
