Imagine if, all of a sudden, every animal gained the ability to speak just like humans—if they could clearly articulate their thoughts, emotions, and suffering. A pet dog—the kind many of us keep at home—could express its feelings and explain the reasons behind its actions; the dog that constantly guards us and our homes could tell us exactly why it barked at specific moments.
Similarly, the birds around us that chirp all day long could explain why they sing every morning and express their desire to communicate with us. If all animals began sharing their voices, sorrows, and pain, a new kind of dialogue would be established. We humans often get lost in our own thoughts and sensitivities, but what would happen if the emotions of animals were also laid bare? Would we treat them with the same seriousness and empathy that we extend to the feelings and suffering of other human beings?
Could listening to our pet dogs or cats help us improve our own lives? Would we truly understand their pain and emotions, and accord them the same respect we show for the feelings and hardships of fellow humans? This remains a question worth pondering.
Would this transformation steer humanity in a new direction, or would it make our way of life even harsher? When the thoughts and emotions of animals are revealed, it will inevitably impact our environment as well; until now, animal communication has been limited to physical gestures and vocalizations. If animals were to start expressing their feelings in words, could we alleviate their physical ailments and troubles? Would science and veterinary medicine become better equipped to understand them, and could we develop a new level of empathy?
If animals began to speak, major questions regarding their rights would arise. How would we determine whether they should receive the same rights as humans? Should we view them as integral parts of our lives? Should we stop hunting them and grant them equal rights to natural resources? This would steer society in a new direction, and we might need to undergo a significant shift in our perspective.
Would our lives improve if we could converse with animals? Whether this change enhances our lives depends on how we handle the situation. If we are willing to understand them and help them, we could explore our world together; our understanding would grow, and we would be able to recognize and comprehend one another much better.
If all the animals in the world were to start speaking, the very idea would lead us toward a new kind of world.
