Monomad Challenge - A Night With Alice Cooper (Part Two)
Anticipation
This is part two of two posts about the Alice Cooper gig I attended with my son on June 1st 2022. Part One can be seen HERE
!!!! Please bear in mind that the images are pics taken on my phone. !!!!
So after part one we fast forward to 2022 and there I was, with my son and Alice Cooper on stage in front of me. Prior to Alice we had Creeper. They were totally unknown to me but my son’s old band had played with them a couple of times (Creeper at that time supported my son’s band). Apparently they have had major line up changes and a bit of a change in musical direction. They were entertaining, was slightly let down by the sound, and, being such a young band, had to work hard to win over the older audience (Hell, even I felt young compared to a lot of the audience).
School's Out
Next up were The Cult. I had been looking forward to seeing them, never been a big fan but did like a lot of their output. Musically they were spot on. Ian Astbury was a total cck though. Goading members of the audience, and generally being a bit t*ttish. Not sure if that’s his normal stage persona, or if he was having a bad day. But I doubt I will go see them again.
Spotlights on
The place just erupted when Alice Cooper and his band took the stage. I had been a bit bewildered prior to them taking the stage the arena looked nowhere near full. It certainly filled up just before Cooper’s show started. They ran through a lot of the old classics , with a few newer songs thrown in. It was a slick performance, the band were as tight as a camel’s a** in a sandstorm, Nina Strauss was incredible and, for a 74 year old, Cooper owned the entire stage. There was the guillotine and a giant and huge babies, but the theatrics were a lot less prevalent than the Nightmare show 47 years ago. But a fabulously tight, musically brilliant set. Cooper’s voice was surprisingly good, backing vocals spot on and the level of musicianship exemplary. A fantastic show.
