I liked the analogy of followers and a store. I would take it one more step, and the real followers are those that are repeat customers. People crowd follow, if a creator has a lot of followers then they must be someone to follow, but it does not really work that way very well on Hive.

One of the things people tend to over look are those repeat customers. Some of the accounts that had whale support then lost whale support had no real follower support to begin with, or when they got the whale support they sat back and did crap for posting which lost the support of their smaller account following, and then lost the whale support. We have both been witness to that happening on Steem and on Hive.

People just do not want to learn that Hive works just a little bit different than the other places that are more centralized.
