There are a few people I trust, even a couple of people I simply do not like for one reason or another. I do not base my trust on like, it is mostly based on action so I really don't need to worry about whether I like or don't like a person in order to trust them.
The benefit of trusting someone you don't like?...if their ship sinks you do not care as much about rescuing them.
