When it comes to the servers, I don't think many of the witness servers are complete standalone servers. Many witnesses use server farms, and those are pretty easy to be shut down on a moments notice. It would be interesting to see on a map where the servers are located.
When Microsoft bought Git-hub, people did not think MS would use their ownership power to block, delete or prevent access to it. They were wrong. (they blocked and banned several programmers). When MS tried to block delete and prevent access to a well liked program to help out google they were wrong about the kick back on that action. The git-hub users just kept making it available. (it was a program that people used to download yt videos).
When people want to make a difference they can, they just have to want to make a change.
