It was the midwits, yes. There is a lot of new stuff everyday so it is difficult to look back although I sometimes occasionally do. I found a story i really enjoyed when I first joined steem. I had to hunt for all the parts since at that time editing was not available. But i persevered and am glad I did because I really enjoyed the story, got a big kick out of it. (@alienbutt was the author). He doesn't post much anymore, but after finding all the parts to his first book and reading it I would leave a comment on all the parts so that if he saw them and responded I would be able to up vote his comment. at the end of reading I just sent him some steem because I enjoyed the story.
With the list function on peakd I have a lot of stuff I can go to and read if my feed runs dry. But yes I understand about the older stuff, but there are ways to give a tip or to just send a small vote sized reward to the author. (It is a good way to catch the attention of up and coming content providers). Not everyone looks at their notifications, my wife ignores them, but does look at her reply section quite often. Me I look at and read my notifications as they come in if I am on hive.
Tips on older post do require a little bit more work, because you want to be sure they are still active.
