From the Russian River Ferry Boat Launch
From one year and 15 days ago. (4-7-2018). The Russian River, which flows from the Kenai Lake to Skilak Lake, I have no idea why it is named the Russian River when it flows out of the Kenai Lake, and the river that flows out of Skilak Lake is called the Kenai River. Still naming conventions be damned, you do get a nice mountain view from the boat launch ramp.
This is also, if you can find a parking spot, and a spot to stand, a great place to watch the people fishing. The style of fishing is known as combat fishing in this area. The fisher's at time will be lined up elbow to elbow, and there is always room for the next person to squeeze in, or at least that is what the next person always thinks.
Hooks flying everywhere and every direction. hats being caught, scarfs, and jackets and gloves and all manner of everything being caught along with the occasional fish. Oh and lets not forget the fact that the bears like to fish here also and as long as you do not hook one they pretty much leave you alone. On the other hand if the bear is having a bad fishing day and you are not, they will come and take your fish. Best to let them have it after all they are bigger, stronger, and faster than you.
