Late Saturday I received this notification in my BOINC client:
I have been crunching for World Community Grid since September of 2016 (1.5 years) and this is my first Ruby badge on any of their subprojects. A ruby badge means that I have donated over 180 days of computing power to the Mapping Cancer Markers subproject. I have also returned over 1000 workunits for this subproject!

World Community Grid is one of my favorite BOINC projects. It is an umbrella project from IBM which allows users to donate their computing power to various medical research ranging from Cancer to Zika to AIDS and Ebola. In my opinion WCG is doing some of the best work out of all the BOINC projects on the Gridcoin whitelist and that is why I have continued to crunch it for years despite the magnitude (payout) being lower in comparison to other projects.
So what has my computer been doing with the Mapping Cancer Marker subproject? I think I'll let World Community Grid describe their work best:
Mapping Cancer Markers on World Community Grid aims to identify the markers associated with various types of cancer. The project is analyzing millions of data points collected from thousands of healthy and cancerous patient tissue samples. These include tissues with lung, ovarian, prostate, pancreatic and breast cancers. By comparing these different data points, researchers aim to identify patterns of markers for different cancers and correlate them with different outcomes, including responsiveness to various treatment options.
