I live in a multi-storey residential building, which is located close to the area of the city, which we call "lines".
This is an old district that began its history in the post-war period.
I mean World War II.
After the devastation that was a consequence of the war, the government of the Soviet Union had to solve the housing problem.
This is how one-story residential buildings and streets appeared outside the city center.
These are typical buildings that were intended for several owners.
The word "owner" is too loud a word for this situation and that time, after all. then, the entire housing stock belonged to the state.
Private property did not exist, or rather, it was eradicated.
On these streets, you can see different options for building houses. Some houses are brick, others are made of logs, but today I want to show you a frame, wooden house, sheathed with boards.
This house has two entrances from different ends for two families, and one piece of land, which, sometimes, the owners share with a light fence.
This is what the facade of the house looks like. Each of the home owners can see only half of the landscape that opens from their windows.
I would call these houses long-livers.
Such houses, today, look much better than their brick counterparts, but all architectural solutions have their pros and cons.
If we talk about the pros, such a house is very warm, because the walls are filled with reeds, or straw, which has been imprisoned in the embrace of wood. This is an excellent heat insulator.
This house breathes and is environmentally friendly.
Typically, each apartment had a tiled stove that heated the house and was very efficient.
This house is lightweight and did not give a strong drawdown on peat bogs.
Of the minuses, it can be noted that the sound insulation in such houses is very weak. You heard the neighbors, and the neighbors hear you.
From time to time, you need to paint the walls and windows of the house, otherwise, the boards will start to rot and the walls will become unusable.
All amenities, toilet and bathroom, this is a walk to the street, or to the city bath.
If you want to install a gas convector under the window of such a house, you will have to cut out a part of the wall under the window and brick the opening with bricks.
Gas supply standards do not allow installing gas convectors on wooden surfaces.
I would say that all the disadvantages of such an architectural solution are little things in life that can be neglected, provided that fire safety is observed.
As you can imagine, this house is built from combustible materials that are highly flammable.
You can step over a lot in order to solve your housing problem.
Apartments in these houses were three and two-room, and the attic was used as a storage room.
Light entered the attic space through such a window. Simple and cute design.
A very wise decision is the device of verandas, or, as they say, cold dressing rooms.
Entering the house, in winter, you let in cold air, only into this small room, but it did not penetrate inside the house.
This way you kept warm.
In this photo you can see the method of filling the boards, the purpose of which is to create an external appeal to the structure and, as much as possible, to insulate it.
Every time I look at wooden windows, I understand that I need to give up the thought, install plastic windows in the house that I am building for our family, wood, only wood!
Probably, there is another drawback of such a house, it is mice.
Mice love the voids inside the space of frame walls and arrange their nests there.
But, any minus can be beaten, because a new and devoted friend - a cat - may appear in your house.
