Because our God is not deaf, he already knows what we want before we ask, therefore we shouldn't waste time repeating petitions that will go unanswered.
Matthew 6:7-8
7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
God will be pleased with your request if you pray with a righteous heart.
The word of God can purify our hearts if they aren't already pure.
Our tongues must be tamed, and we can only do it with God's assistance.
James 1:26
If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
We must always pray with a pure heart and a clean lips.
Matthew 15:18
But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
Proverbs 4:23
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
Allow for fairness in our disputes; our yeses and noes should be yeses and noes, respectively.
Because the mouth has power, we shouldn't use the same tongue we use to pray to say vile things and damage people.
James 3:9-12
Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.
Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?
Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.
Praying with an unclean heart and a dirty mouth is an abomination to the Lord.
We need to learn how to control our tongue.
Proverbs 12:18
There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.
Proverbs 13:3
He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction
Proverbs 16:24
Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
The tongue is a small organ yet very powerful.
Proverbs 18:21
Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
Ephesians 4:29
KJV:Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
