If you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior the Holy Spirit will make you a better person. But it takes time, obedience, and spiritual discipline. You need to go to church regularly, pray regularly, read the Bible regularly, and grow in obedience. You won't be spiritually mature until you're emotionally mature. You can expect the process to take decades.
