Some time ago, I used to joke with friends that carried an umbrella.
I used to say, "The first symptom of getting old for a man, is that he starts carrying an umbrella!"
I was still young and it really wasn't a problem to get a little wet in the rain. It was also easy to run and seek cover if necessary.
That was also easy to say, since my exposure was only from my block at work to the car in the garage.
This week, after several days where the rain caught me in the middle of the way home, I decided I needed to do something.
I realized that it is my turn to get old and I can no longer tolerate the same things I used to tolerate.
I no longer have the same agility to hide from the rain and arriving at work or at home wet is a great inconvenience.
But in order not to look so old or as a way to hide my old age, I did not buy an umbrella, but a raincoat.
This way I can still go out in the rain as a young man facing the rain unprotected, but with the secure feeling of maturity hidden in my backpack.
