I am also cautious of letting my mind go under someone's control
Very understandable!
However, from all I've read and listened to (books, testimonials, even recorded 'live sessions') it isn't exactly like that ie. not being in control. ....sure the pre-requisite is someone you trust to have your healing as the intention (gut feelings work well, and synchronicity too IMO). You cd ask to tape the sessions both for your own comfort/record and to observe what the reaction is (if confident and with 'good' intentions, this shouldn't be a prob. with the hypno pers.).
Once out of hypnosis, folk don't need to be told by anyone what took place. The person is always aware. Sure subjects can be hypnotised into not remembering this or that etc, but that is where you need to have satisfied your trust criteria. Of course this may be a considerable issue for you and your brand of OCD :). Signals can be agreed with therapists to come out of a particular memory if too painful etc.
I'd say it's worth exploring more.
Suggestions: relevant for an understanding of the process of hypnotherapy and regression. These are to do with past life regression and regression into the 'between life' state. Sound whacked out to you? I believe the experience you describe is real - certainly has psychological reality for you at the very least...no? None of this is any less real IMO. You seem to really wanna find out and this seems worth looking into - slowly, at your pace, re-evaluating each step if you wanna continue, knda thing. Wish you well anyway bro 👍
