The EU plan to ban entry of Indonesian Crude Palm Oil (CPO) products is considered not a good move for trading conditions. President Director of PT Smart Tbk Daud Dharsono considers that the EU policy should be discussed first with industry players and relevant stakeholders.
"Boycott boycott did not solve the problem, even add to the problem," said Daud Dharsono in ICOPE media briefing in Jakarta, Friday (13/4).
The EU Parliament has approved a phase out biodiesel plan for crude palm oil in 2021. Although not final, the plan threatens Indonesia's biodiesel exports.
According to David, this policy will certainly be executed properly if it has been discussed. "Want to reduce the emissions in accordance with the target, would be replaced with renewable energy or biofuel, please only .. The important discussion first," he said.
Meanwhile, WWF Indonesia's Director of Policy, Sustainability and Transformation Aditya Bayunanda said the EU policy is highly discriminatory to Indonesia and Malaysia as producers of CPO. For that Indonesia is entitled to anger, let alone it concerns the life of the community around the plantations that depend on the palm.
"Palm oil is very important to overcome poverty, this palm oil will not threaten the forest as long as it is done outside the area of national parks and protected forests," said Aditya.
According to him, the EU can be fair by allowing standardized CPO products to enter Europe. Especially now many companies that have a good standard and also encourage environmental conservation to keep the industry sustainable.
"What is needed is incentives to the good production, the EU should allow companies that are in compliance with the standards," Aditya said.
