Syria's pro-government forces and Islamic State militant group (ISIS) have agreed on a temporary ceasefire in southern Damascus on Saturday, May 19, 2018.
A ceasefire was agreed after a bloody battle between pro-government forces against ISIS in one part of the Syrian capital.
Last month, Syrian troops under President Bashar al-Assad launched a large-scale operation against ISIS in the Hajar al-Aswad district and Yarmuk refugee camp. The clashes caused casualties in both camps.
"The truce comes into force today, with a duration of about five hours," said the monitoring group Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
Head of the Rami Observatory Abdel Rahman told AFP news agency on Saturday night that the ceasefire, which is likely to be the start of the ISIS militant evacuation from Damascus, is still ongoing.
He called the ceasefire has been negotiated by Russia and the pro-Syrian Palestinian faction.
But Syria's SANA news agency, quoting a military source, denied a ceasefire.
According to the Observatory, a meeting in southern Damascus has killed 484 ISIS militants and more than 250 pro-government soldiers and 56 civilians.
The civil war in Syria has killed more than 350,000 people since its inception in 2011.
