Amphilophus citrinellus, or better known as Midas cichlid. This fish comes from fresh waters in Central America, especially lakes in Nicaragua.
The characteristic of the Amphilophus citrinellus that I photographed is its large and stocky body, with a striking yellowish-white color and a prominent head shape. Body color can vary greatly, from dark gray, to bright orange, to plain white as seen on this individual. These colors are often the result of selection in captivity, although some also occur naturally.
In the aquarium, these fish exhibit very active and territorial behavior. He often digs at the bottom of the aquarium and displays aggressive interactions with other fish if any approach his territory. However, he was also quite intelligent and seemed to recognize the presence of humans around him, even swimming over when I approached with the camera.
