I recognized this species as (Amathusia phidippus) , or what is often called King Palm. This butterfly is more active at dusk, so it is not surprising that it looks quiet during the day. I approached slowly, trying not to disturb him. Its small black eyes looked alert, and its antennae moved subtly as if it was reading the movements around it.
The shop window where he perches is quite a contrast to the color of his wings. The dull wall with the paint starting to peel off is the perfect backdrop, making the unique pattern on the wings stand out even more. For a moment, I wondered, where did this butterfly come from? Is he looking for shelter? Or maybe just enjoy the tranquility of the village before flying back to explore nature?
When I took several photos, the butterfly was still still, as if giving me the opportunity to record every detail of its body. After a few minutes, it started to move its legs, then slowly flapped its wings. With a graceful movement, he darted away, leaving the old window soundless.
