Several years ago, I really liked this girl. She was my co-worker back when I worked at McDonalds. She was the same age as me, and supposedly even went to the same high school I went to.

I began talking with her, and we became friends. A couple of months later, I planned asking her out. When we were done working our shift that day, I went up to her, and began to ask her out, but she suddenly said, “You’re asking me out, aren’t you?” Before I could reply, she said, “Because who the hell would want to date you nasty, obese bitch.” (I was overweight at the time.) I knew then that asking her out probably wouldn’t be such a good idea, so I just said, “Why would you think that I’d ask you out?” She then immediately apologized, but that didn’t help my now broken heart.

Yes, I was sad, I was angry, I was jealous, I was hateful, but several months later, I was diagnosed with dysthymia, which is a form of depression that can last for years. Yeah, that’s how bad I made myself feel because of a shallow girl rejecting me.

So, to everyone out there, including men: If you don’t like someone that asks you out, don’t begin insulting them and cursing at them. Be kind to them when you reject them. They’ll still be sad, but it would be way better than a harsh rejection.

Well, everyone knows rejection burns.
