Fresh autumn air, gold damp foliage, peace and quiet. What else do you need for a good rest. And you need to take a leisurely walk along the narrow streets of the old resort town of Sestroretsk.
Sometimes it is useful to open an old archive of photos. The camera with which I filmed this no longer exists for me. My son trains on it. But the results of the work of this old camera remained. Probably now I would process these photos differently, but let everything remain as it is.
You will not be able to see this building now. It was not demolished. It is almost completely covered with scaffolding. Reconstruction and restoration work has begun. Of course, such work should have started several years ago, maybe several decades.
There were a lot of similar examples of wooden architecture in Sestroretsk. In fact, all the buildings were wooden and the design of the buildings was not repeated. Such a house is quite expensive to keep in perfect order. It requires constant maintenance and repair work. In the 90s, Russia was going through hard times. The economy was destroyed and many people were preoccupied with simple survival. At the same time, some houses were bought out and rebuilt, and sometimes they were simply demolished and dachas of bandits and thieves were built in their place. Yes, this is a sad page in our history. But something still remains.
This is a different house. It is no less beautiful, but also in a deplorable state. Nobody has lived in it for a long time. The windows and doors are boarded up with boards. But there are still elements of wooden architecture that testify to the former beauty of the building.
The fence was also destroyed and I was able to get closer to see the details. They did not make me happy as a person, but they interested me as a photographer.
When I look at these houses, I am reminded of various old films of the last century with ghosts and adventures of heroes among vampires. But this one is just my fantasies. Respected people lived here and these houses are still waiting for their tenants.
Some houses and entire estates in Soviet times were given to children for kindergartens and summer recreation camps. Now they are also empty. There were many children's camps along the coast of the Gulf of Finland. Now many of them are also abandoned, but some are beginning to revive. True, it used to be free for families, but now a lot has a commercial basis.
I would really like this gate to lead to a bright future. It is hoped that large social systems have a self-regulation mechanism. According to the laws of development of such systems, the life cycle has a sinusoidal shape. I really hope that our sinusoid has passed the minimum point and now, against all odds, the rise and growth to the next maximum should begin.
I do not know how old wooden buildings might look like in this bright future and whether they have a bright future. But now restoration work has begun on some of them and this gives hope.
