The suburbs of Leningrad never cease to amaze and delight. One of them is Peterhof. It is famous for its fountains, but today we will visit another place.

In 1837, by order of Nicholas I, a hunting swamp was deepened, a pond with islands was created, and a few years later a park was laid out around the pond[6]. The pond got its name from Olga's pavilion, which was created for the second daughter of Nicholas I — Olga. It served to supply water to the city and fountains. The excavated earth was used for the embankment of three islands: Holgin, Tsaritsyn and tiny Rabbit. On the Olgin and Tsaritsyn Islands , architect Andrey Ivanovich Shtakenschneider built the Olgin and Tsaritsyn pavilions for the daughter and wife of Nicholas I. A marble sculpture was installed, flower beds were laid out.

I want to show you the old willows that grow along this pond and a little Peter and Paul Cathedral. The rain has just ended, the day is cloudy, there are few colors and I decided to process the photo in monochrome. We'll just remove the greenery from the photo.

Of course, as in any urban reservoir (any) ducks live here. But that bird with the white skin on its head is a coot. It's a pity that her paws are under water and you can't see them. That's something. Coots do not belong to ducks.
The coot[1], or lyska[2] (Latin Fulica atra) is a small waterfowl of the shepherd family, widely distributed over a vast territory of Eurasia, North Africa and Australia. Within its range , it is well recognized by its white beak and white leathery plaque on the forehead.

I do not know how old these willows are. Perhaps they have been growing since this pond was dug up. They have a bizarre shape. You can look at it endlessly.

The Cathedral of Peter and Paul looks through the trees from the shore of the pond. I couldn't help but go inside. They're not allowed to take pictures inside, but I'm very curious. My camera was hanging at the level of my stomach and I was shooting without aiming. Besides, it was quite dark in the temple.

It turned out to be quite beautiful inside. I like old temples. They have the spirit of the times and a special power that gives peace to the soul.

Now the temple is in the process of restoration and repair. It usually takes a long time. I remember that the Spak-on-blood in Leningrad was restored for several decades.
