But now all these strange tools were unnecessary. He held a burning gas burner in his hands and looked forward to the pleasure of the end of the process.

He was not a professional, but he was very fond of experiments. He was very interested in how the color of the body and this whole copper picture would change under the influence of high temperature. Discoloration, dross, metal oxidation in the burner flame ... all options had to be tried.
