@ ruta-rudens well [wrote about the Chaga mushroom] (https://beta.peakd.com/@ruta-rudens) and I realized that it was time for me to go to the forest. This mushroom grows on birches. It is very strong and you will not be able to take it with your hands. Can be kicked if it grows at the bottom of the trunk. But it's better to have an ax with you. I have a small hatchet. The top of the ax has been sawed off to reduce weight. I made a wooden handle for my hand. This is my camping ax. It usually lies in the trunk of a car. But I cannot drive a car in the forest and look for mushrooms. So the ax should be with me. But it is very sharp, I sometimes sharpen pencils with it. I haven't tried shaving yet. In short ... a sharp blade of an ax needs a cover. By chance I watched one video about Evenk knives and axes. Evenks make wooden covers. All the tool they use is just a knife. The Evenk knife has a narrow blade and is very functional. I used a whole set of tools. It's good that I always have it.

The Evenks make a cover from a single piece of wood. They cut and gouge out the desired shape. When I make myself a real Evenk knife, I will try to do like them. In the meantime, we are working with a familiar tool.
I took two thin boards and made symmetrical indentations in them according to the shape of the ax blade. Two pencils from Ikea served as thorns to fix the position of the boards. Agree, this is much easier than picking a deep narrow crack in the tree.
Then I used wood glue and clamps.
There were not so many shavings.

As a result, I got just such a piece of wood. Now I had to figure out how to fix the cover on the ax so that it would hold securely. I asked the Evenks ...
For this purpose, a regular shoe lace will do, but I had the right pieces of string, thin and strong.

Under the lace, you need to cut small grooves at the ends of the wooden cover. Tie one end of the cover (leave part of the lace free), tie the other end of the cover (there is a wide loop between the ties and the other end of the lace is also free.

I showed how to fix this piece of wood in the photo.

As you can see, everything is pretty simple. Now such an ax can be safely put in a backpack or tucked into a belt. I went to the forest with him today. And I found chaga. But that is another story.
