What connects all these photos to Fort Rif? Good question. You probably know the answer to another question - what connects all these photos in general.
I had to do a little investigation.
The Iron Master Alexandre Gustave Eiffel is a French engineer, architect and entrepreneur best known for his significant contribution to the cityscape of Paris - the Eiffel Tower.
A lot of things were built according to his project and his hands. For example, this bridge is the Ponte de Dona Maria Pia bridge Portugal, 1877.
Okay, I won't torment the reader anymore, otherwise he may leave offended.
This fragment of the "Eiffel Tower" was raised from the bottom of the Baltic Sea near the bastion of Fort Rif. How did he get there? Good question.
Being an active businessman, Gustave Eiffel proposed one of his projects for the construction of a bridge to the tsarist government of Russia. Nicholas II decided to first test the structure for strength. This was done on the grounds of the fort. You see traces of a powerful explosion, bent iron. But the strong rivets remained in place. One way or another, but Eiffel's project won the competition. According to his project, the Trinity Bridge was built in St. Petersburg. True, it was not the Eiffel himself who built it, but his more enterprising fellow countrymen.
Now I am not able to show you a fresh close-up shot of this bridge. But I will definitely do it later. In the archive, I found a snapshot of October 2013 taken with some kind of soap dish. A metal structure begins behind the stone granite part of the bridge. In addition, one of the spans of this bridge can be raised for the passage of ships.
These pictures were taken by me in June this year. I went to see the bridges being raised on the White Nights. The last photo shows the raised span of this bridge.
By the way, the American Statue of Liberty has a steel frame, which was designed by the same Gustave Eiffel.
