This picture was clicked by me way back in 2011 when I had visited the island of Langkawi. While exploring the place, I was taken to an island called the 'pregnant maiden island'. From a distance the outline this island forms is that of a pregnant woman lying down (can you see it?).
Once you enter the island, you are greeted by dense rain forest covered hills. The path on the island takes you to a large fresh water lake right in the centre. It is said that any woman who has a problem with fertility, once she takes a dip in this lake, will be able to conceive again. Though not backed by science, this is a popular belief among the locals and many who visit it.
According to legends a man named Mat Teja fell in love with the princess named Mambang Sari. They got married and had a son together who unfortunately didn't live long. The princess put her son to rest at this lake and blessed the lake with fertility to any woman who has trouble conceiving.
Despite being surrounded by sea, the water in this lake is fresh water. After a short climb uphill, about a 100 steps lead you down to the lake. It can get pretty crowded during the tourist season, so to enjoy the peace and calm, it is best to visit it off season.
Langkawi is almost hundred percent free of crime, the biggest thief's here are the monkeys (this was told to me by my cabby). The island is filled with monkeys, please don't go on their innocent faces. They can get aggressive in minutes and pull whatever you are carrying.
Hope this information helped. It's a must visit as the entire place is just natural beauty. I will come up with more similar information on the places I have traveled to. You can follow my blog @bakermaker.
Leave your comments if you know more about the island. Thank you.
